Black Kitsune are extremely rare - in fact, only 5% of the Kitsune popultion are black. They are incredibly powerful in magic ability, and reknown for their incredible strength in the mystical realms. They can have incredible capacities for energy storage, and many devote their entire lives to the study and understanding of magic, making them some of the most deadly mages possible to meet. Woe betide the person who should anger a Black Kitsune to the point of attack - chances of survival would be slim. However, while not stupid, they certainly dislike overcomplicating matters with deep contemplative thought, and although they do not act like fools their thoughts tend to follow a straight logical path rather than meandering - this means that to achieve their aim, usually rather than investigating various alternatives they will pick the first alternative that achieves all that they need to achieve, and this may not be the most efficient method, or the most harmless one for all concerned. They are generally apathetic towards most Kitsune, but may find Reds and Whites frustrating from time to time while finding Greys respectable and peaceful company.
The Black Kitsune can be a very large creature compared to the other species, choosing to take on a considerable bulk. However, their legs are usually long and thin, and their tails very thick and bushy albeit sleek. Usually their fur is unpatterned and simple, as they find pattern and beauty largely unnecessary for the sake of practicality - however, they will often choose a distinguishing mark by which they can be recognised, obvious enough at a close distance but indistinguishable otherwise. This is so that they can easily be identified even long past death and so that their pelt is recognisable to their own kind should it be used by a hunter, but also so that a hunter cannot recognise them as a specific Kitsune by their pelt colour unless they are too close for their own good. Their shoulders, necks and haunches are padded out with thick muscle developed from magic more than training, but the rest of them is slightly slimmer to make up for the additional weight. They have large enough ears and reasonable sized eyes, along with elongated muzzles. The colour of their marking will range from any number of hues, but is usually dark so as to blend in with their black fur. It is also often positioned around the neck and back, so as to make it difficult for a hunter to remove from a skin (although sometimes brighter markings may also be placed on the belly and hind legs). Their eyes, again, can range from any colour - usually, however, they are dull and unimpressive. Of course, there are exceptions - some who wish to appear intimidating so as to scare off potential threats will choose very strikingly bright colours, which contrast sharply with their dark pelt to scare any would-be attackers. However, once a Black Kitsune has chosen an appearance, they will usually remain faithfully with this appearance for life. Interestingly, their human form is often very similar to their Kitsune form, with nearly all of them having the same eye colour, the same hair colour as their fur and having a similar relative build, along with very vulpine-like features.
Personalitywise, Black Kitsune are known for being grim and serious. Their personalities are distant and cold, and many people find them the most frightening of all Kitsune - some human legends even talk of Black Kitsune being ghosts who have possessed the burnt bodies of Kitsune who burned themselves to death. They are haunting and quiet, with very little to say, and an eerie air surrounds them which makes most people feel very afraid. They have a reputation for utter ruthlessness from time to time, and while they do not look to cause harm for the most part they will not hesitate to cause it to get their own way. Some would call the Black Kitsune evil for this - but this is most certainly not so. For the Black Kitsune, the process of thought is very linear. Rather than overthinking a concept, they decide a destination and then select the easiest route that comes to them within the space of a few minutes. While not rash, and not quick to put themselves in any serious risk, they do not overthink the consequences of their actions on others whom they care little for, and because of this there can be many victims in their plans. But they are not needlessly cruel, and should you befriend a black - which can take many years, to reach the center of their heart - they can make extremely trustworthy and reliable friends who will come to your aid when it is needed. They are often 'friendly' enough with Red Kitsune, although they have a slight rivalry with them, but dislike Fennecs and Whites for their whimsicality at times. However, they get along best with the most caring of the Kitsune species - the Greys. This strikes many as strange, but for the Black Kitsune, Greys are peaceful company and cause very little interference.
