Desert Kitsune account for only 10% of the Kitsune population, possibly because of the toughness of where they live, but more likely down to the tough standards they set themselves. They value physical strength far more than any other attribute, gathering speed, intelligence and wits in their desertland survival where they frequently test themselves to the limits, pushing themselves as far as they will go and often without the aid of their magic. However, though they love to challenge themselves, in their path they become somewhat fixated and they rarely permit themselves to deviate from that road, walking down the same way with stubborn obstinacy that very few if any can budge. They are extremely suspicious individuals, and usually only trust one of their own kind fully. However, they share the same love of a challenge as many Red Kitsune and so, while their attributes and values are almost opposite at times, friendly competition between the two is not infrequent. White Kitsune, on the other hand, frustrate Desert Kitsune and an encounter between the two species will more often than not end in the Desert Kitsune chasing the White Kitsune away. Blacks and Greys unsettle them, and so while they may tolerate a Black or a Grey Kitsune nearby they will very, very rarely befriend one.
Physically, they are the smallest of all the foxes, aside from their infamously large ears. They are also the thinnest, since they rely as little as possible on their magical energy and more on their own wits - although when they do use their magic it can be devastatingly powerful (if a little out-of-control). Their fur, of course, is usually sandy yellow in colour, although this can variate slightly. Their muzzles are quite short, but pointed. To the surprise of many, they are extremely proud of their tails, moreso than any other Kitsune kind, and keep them rigorously clean - it is not uncommon to see a bedraggled desert Kitsune with a set of brilliant tails, often designed with ornate dark patterns to make them very striking. However, aside from their tails desert Kitsune rarely choose to pattern themselves excessively, instead making themselves distinct by big, bold traits which may or may not be fur patterns. Rather than using fine, delicate details they prefer great bold patches of a solid dark colour usually on the face or legs, only spending any real time being decorative on their tails. Forehead markings, or ear markings, are also not uncommon in Desert Kitsune. They may also choose to have unusually large or small physical traits, but would never physically damage themselves with magic because they believe that all scars are signs of honour and courage, and to self-inflict one would be shameful. Although their muscles are powerful, they are usually thin and concentrated in their strength rather than broad and sturdy. They usually have power particularly in their legs and jaws, and they are known for having very sharp, needle-like teeth that can draw blood with a scratch - often, in a fight between Desert Kitsune (which, although rare, does happen sometimes in play and sometimes in seriousness), the scene of battle remains red for weeks afterwards. Their eyes are usually normal, but occasionally in later years they may choose to add a patch of different colour to it. Their ethic for a humanform, while not necessarily vulpine, is usually similar - scraggly individuals, with tough but skinny builds and very little attention paid to physical appearance. The one thing they do usually retain in humanform is their sharp teeth. This causes much chaos among humans, when they catch a street ruffian who then bites them so deep and hard that their teeth scrape bone.
In terms of their personality, the Desert Kitsune are known mainly for three things - their ferocity, their suspicion and their stubbornness. A Desert Kitsune will never back down from their intended aim even if it leads to their death, forcing their way ahead towards their goal with a fixation that few if any can rival. They will rarely if ever trust others, usually only allowing a few choice beings into their life, but those few that they have they will guard and stand by no matter what it takes with loyalty to the point of death - after all, if there are only two or three important people in your life, then you cannot afford to lose them. It has been known for Desert Kitsune to die for one another: in fact, if a Desert Kitsune were unwilling to offer their lives for a close friend then there would be an element of shame. They are also very proud of their courage and their toughness, and for a Desert Kitsune to be put into a situation where they lost all courage and self-dependency would be extremely shameful to the point of a good reason for suicide. They are certainly not afraid of death - they are not suicidal beings by nature, but they rise to obstacles in their path with utter ferocity. But as dangerous as this sounds, often their inner strengh and courage will carry them through these obstacles. They very rarely suffer from self-doubt. Though many might consider them foolish, the Desert Kitsune see little point in a long life if it is not lived, and for those who have won the trust of a Desert Kitsune, there is rarely anything less than complete and total respect for the tough, gritty creatures.
